About
Dulles Airport hotels are found mostly on the East side of Dulles Airport as Dulles Airport traffic mainly serves the Washington DC metro area, which is approximately 25 miles to the East. Dulles Airport is officially called the Washington Dulles International Airport, who’s airport code is IAD.
Dulles Airport was named after John Foster Dulles, the United States Secretary of State that served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958. While Dulles Airport hotels are mainly for Washington DC visitors, the airport itself is increasingly serving the entire Capital Beltway and Dulles Technology Corridor in the Virginia suburbs.
Several historical events have occurred at Dulles Airport, including being the landing place of the SR-71 military jet when setting a coast-to-coast speed record of 2124 mph and completing the trip in only 64 minutes. The first British Airways Concorde and Air France Concorde supersonic overseas flights flew from London and Paris, respectively, and landed nose to nose in May 1976.
For transportation to and from Dulles Airport, all hotels near Dulles Airport have shuttles that operate throughout the day and night at regular intervals.
